Haiti Spends Millions in Washington D.C. to Help Jovenel Moïse's Image

The Haitian government is spending millions with lobbying firms in Washington, D.C. for the purpose of improving the image of President Jovenel Moïse in the eyes of U.S. senators and representatives in Congress and in the Trump administration.

The information was confirmed by Senator Youri Latortue (AAA - Artibonite) on Monday who continues his work as Chairman of the Senate Ethics and Anti-Corruption Committee. Senator Latortue doesn't believe it is abnormal to hire lobbyists for the purposes of forwarding Haiti's interests, but for the president's personal interest, he feels it is irregular.

There is also an issue with the contracts held with the lobbying firms. Haiti requires contracts be reviewed by the Court of Auditors and Administrative Disputes before being executed. None were, similar to the Dermalog contract initiated by First Lady Martine Moïse outside of the law, of which a few million dollars are unaccounted.
