U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R - FL) one of Haiti's most vocal supporters has joined the calls of many in Haitians in Haiti and around the world, as well as observers of Haiti, in calling for the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse.

Since Senator Rubio's visit to Haiti and meeting with President Jovenel Moise, the Supreme Court of Auditors (CSCCA) has cited him for money laundering, embezzlement, and fraud in the multi-billion dollar Petrocaribe fund. Mr. Moïse has also poorly managed the country and has responded to protests for prosecuting individuals found in corruption and better quality of life with massacres.

“My interest in Haiti has always been that it has democracy and elections and rule of law and I will continue to support it in those endeavors. Who they choose as their leader is up to the processes that they run internally,” Senator Rubio told the Miami Herald. “We don’t have a role to play in who resigns and who stays on.”
