Thousands Risk Deportation out of Chile if Haitian Gov't Doesn't Act

Of some 16,000 migrants in Chile, most Haitian nationals, the threat of deportation after July 22, 2019 is just about imminent. If the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) in Haiti does not return the background checks applied for by these citizens in Chile, the Chilean Interior Minister Rodrigo Ubilla affirms he will strictly apply the deportation measures outlined in the country's migrant control plan.

After 1,262 Haitian migrants had taken advantage of a voluntary free repatriation program by the Chilean Government, others were given until July 22, 2019 to finalize their immigrant statuses. What remains for most Haitians is reception of a Certificate of Good Morals and Life, essentially a clear background certificate.
