Historian Michel Hector Passes at 87, Nation Mourns

Historian Michel Hector passed away Saturday at the age of 87 to health issues that he had been suffering for some time. He was surrounded by his relatives in Petion-ville on the night and his loss is being lamented across Haiti for his lifetime of work.

Mr. Hector presided over the Haitian Society of History and Geography. He was a recipient of the Jean Price Mars Award. An award for his various works in the field of research in the humanities and social sciences. Michel Hector is also remembered as a committed activist, which cost him years of exile, during the dictatorship of the Duvaliers.
