The Justinien University Hospital in Cap-Haitien is reporting having received more than 20 injured persons, at least 15 by gunfire, where according to reports, armed men fired on a group of government opponents in the Samarie district in north Cap-Haitien on Friday.

In retaliation, the opposition protesters burned several homes in the Shadah neighborhood of Samarie. The neighborhood is adjacent to where the armed individuals had fired on the opposition rally and where the gunmen were believed to have retreated.

The attack on the protesters comes after supporters of President Jovenel Moise had called on certain members of the public to take up arms against persons demonstrating for the president's resignation. In this call, Rosemond Jean of Mouvement Tet Kale declared the terms of engagement to be all out civil war.
