7 Wounded in Movements Calling for Justice for Slained Journalist

On Saturday, seven individuals, including a police officer, were wounded in events that precipitated in the final lap of the funeral procession for journalist Néhémie Joseph, who was gunned down on October 10.

Information reported about the incident is that groups returned to erect fiery barricades in the city and took to the streets in protest, demanding justice for Joseph and for the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse. Gunfire was reported in the vicinity of the movements.

Police officers of the specialized Departmental Unit of Maintenance of Order (UDMO) arrived on the scene and were aggressive in their attempts to disperse the demonstrators. They were showered by stones as they showered the citizens with tear gas.
