On Thursday, the Alternative Coalition for Haiti held a press conference where the call for a general mobilization across Haiti on Friday, September 20, 2019, was called.

The mobilization takes place on the 261st birthday of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines, a founding forefather and first Head of State of Haiti.

The former Minister for Women under the presidency of René Préval, Marjorie Michel, read the coalition's declarations which included, foremost, the demand for the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse.

Lawyer Michel André, long time human rights activist, presented the results of the last mobilizations. This included a condemnation of the deaths of at least three people, including that of Vladimir Fede, killed Monday in the commune of Carrefour.

Mr. André reported 69 wounded, among them a 3-year old girl. 77 political arrests were reported, with only 50 of those arrested, having been released.

Senators at the press conference were Nenel Cassy (Fanmi Lavalas - Nippes), Sorel Jacinthe (Inite - Grand'Anse) and Youri Latortue (AAA - Artibonite). Senator Latortue issued the appeal for civil disobedience.
