With 150,000 Haitians settled into Chile, Sunrise Airways is seeking to obtain clearance from Chilean authorities to begin offering direct flights between Port-au-Prince, Haiti and Santiago, Chile.

This is the second time around for Sunrise Airways owner, Philippe Bayard, in trying to establish a bilateral agreement on air services between Haiti and Chile. To these ends, he met with Chilean Ambassador Rodrigo Donoso Maluf accompanied by officials from the National Office of Civil Aviation, Olivier Jean and Aïcha Gardère.

150,000 Haitians are believed to have settled in Chile in recent years and Mr. Bayard sees a good opportunity to offer flights between the two countries. Sunrise Airways continues to make domestic flights within Haiti. Recently it provided free emergency transport to Port-au-Prince for children injured in an explosion in the Nippes. Flights are also available to Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
