PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – he Kaliko Beach Club will soon be transformed into a Hilton, according to the property’s officials, who announced a major step towards signing an agreement with the Double Tree by Hilton group.
With the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Kaliko Beach’s officials, Fritz Paret and Myrlande Afriani, said a $15 million renovation would create new jobs and help prevent young people from fleeing the country in search of opportunities elsewhere, reported the Haiti Press Network.
The promised signing of the agreement includes the construction of two new buildings and 65 more rooms, on top of the 55 already in operation. These rooms and their accompanying facilities will be “to international standards, in order to attract more tourists by offering more suitable comfort and more attractive spaces”.
“The facility aims to offer a quality image and a space offering more comfort and leisure to the clientele as well as a new spa under construction that will be made available to customers,” said Fritz Paret.
Kaliko’s new members want to avoid the sentiment that has set in of visitors finding the property not considerable as a relaxing space.
According to Myrlande Afriani apart from restructuring, a very varied dining menu “including everything” will be offered to tourists and customers.
The Kaliko Beach Resort experienced a major public relations setback earlier this year when the Haitian National Police brought about a sting operation that resulted in the release of more than 30 girls and women, many minors, caught up in sex tourism.
