PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – Haiti took the first of the two game Gold Cup qualifiers on their home field in Port-au-Prince, Friday, [3-1].

In Managua, the Nicaraguan press are calling it the most dominant beat down their team, under coach Henry Duarte, has ever had to face.

The contest now shifts to the Central American team’s home pitch for Tuesday, March 28th’s game. The Nicaraguan team will have to win by four points to reverse what appears inevitable, a Haiti 2017 Gold Cup tournament berth.

El Nuevo Diario wrote:

In Port-au-Prince, Haiti was the master and lord of the court. It beat Nicaragua 3-1, showing total sovereignty in the game, holding possession of the ball, creating chances at the goal, undressing the shortcomings of its rival, taking advantage of each mistake by the Blue and White, exploiting them to the maximum. The selection played one of the worst matches in the era of Costa Rican Henry Duarte and returns today to the country with swollen feet, virtually eliminated from the Gold Cup playoff.

If Haiti does indeed continue on to the Gold Cup, they will enter in Group B, with the United States, Panama and Martinique.
