LOS ANGELES, California, USA (sentinel.ht) – Haitian Film Producer, Raoul Peck, may be reaching another echelon in his career Sunday night with an Academy Award. Peck’s civil rights documentary, “I Am Not Your Negro” is among the nominees for the Oscar for Best Documentary.

Samuel L. Jackson on I Am Not Your Negro Documentary

The film is narrated by Samuel L. Jackson. It is based on the late author, James Baldwin’s 30-page letter in 1979 that outlined a biography of slain civil rights leaders, Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. Although Baldwin’s proposed manuscript was never completed, his letter and other writings serve as fuel for an examination of race relations in America in Peck’s documentary.

This is Raoul Peck’s first ever Academy Award nomination. His team includes Rémi Grellety and Hébert Peck. It is going up against other nominees:

O.J.: Made in America
Life, Animated
