Hollywood Celebs come together for Annual Haiti Relief Gala

BEVERLY HILLS, California, USA ( – Seven years after the 2010 earthquake, many have dropped support for Haitian families but not for a handful of Hollywood celebrities led by Actor Sean Penn. On Saturday, big names came together for the 6th Annual Haiti Rising gala in Beverly Hills.

Proceeds from the gala go to J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO) which runs year-round support programs in Haiti through projects that evolve as they witness changes on the ground. Relief from the October 2016 Hurricane Matthew, for example; this is a top priority after the storm left nearly 1,000 dead, hundreds of thousands with homes, and a million, according to official statistics, in vulnerable circumstances.

On its website, the charity cites five projects it is continuing to focus on: Medical, Camp and Relocations Management, Community Development and Engineering and Construction. It also supports cultural awareness projects, such as sponsoring runners for the New York City Marathon in recent years.
