HMI mourns death of artist, drummer Black EZ

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti ( – The HMI is in mourning after the passing of one of its youngest artist and percussionist, Vilaire Jean Dhanis, also known as Black Easy. On Tuesday, the 37-year old was found unconscious at his home and was rushed to the hospital where the time of death was late in the evening declared.

The Ministry of Culture and Communication is deeply dismayed by the news three days after his December 3rd birthday. It is with great emotion that the Ministry low bow at the premature departure of this son of the terroir, associates to this mourning which strikes his wife and two children, his close relations, the members of the group Bèl Plezi and expresses to them all its sympathy and solidarity.

Black was the victim of a vascular stroke. He was found unconscious at his home in Delmas 54 around 7:00 pm. He was surrounded by family, friends and fellow artists, Shabba, Senator Don Kato, Deputy-elect Gracia Delva, and many more. It was at the University Hospital La Paix where he passed away.

A Native of Jérémie, Black EZ was known for his extraordinary talent and sense of humor. He played as a drummer in the groups Legend, Mass Konpa and Krezi Mizik to finish his race in his own group Bèl Plezi he had formed with Berto.
