PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – In his first declaration following the publication of preliminary election results, presumed President-elect Jovenel Moise called for Haitians, the youth and the Diaspora, to come together in the work to “pick Haiti up off its knees”.

“The Haitian people have made their choice and elected me in the first round. Now, in a spirit of togetherness, I invite you, dear compatriots, to walk with me on the road for endogenous development for Haiti at the height of its historical performance and its legitimate ambitions.”

“My brothers and sisters, together we will change Haiti. It is all [of us] that must work to enable every Haitian man and woman to live better.”

“I make a call to the youth of the country, Haitians living abroad, to all professionals in the country, to engage with me to bring the country up because Haiti is on its knees.”

“Tonight, I have a special thought for everyone of my competitors, every citizen who was a candidate because they had a project for Haiti.”

Late Monday, November 28, 2016, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) of Leopold Berlanger announced that Moïse had achieved 55% of the vote in a field of 27 candidates. These were preliminary results and can be challenged. Final results will be published on December 29, 2016.
