SAINT-MARC, Aribonite, HT (sentinel.ht) – The State University of Lower Artibonite in St-Marc (UPBAS) opened its doors on Friday as the second university of the Artibonite department, 11th State University in the nation.
Educaton Minister, Jean Beauvois Dorsonne, installed the rector of this new institution, Professor Auguste D’Meza. It was created by the ministry by an edict dated November 3, 2016.
The university will open offering four courses of study: Education, Agriculture Science, Engineering and Law. The University will start with about 200 students and can enroll 600.
For Minister Dorsonne (from the region), “the UPBAS must meet the challenges of this geographic space charge of economic potential. It is the expression of a strong will of the competent authorities to create a university in nearby after a diagnosis of the situation in the subregion.”
