PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – The President of the Republic delivered a video statement on Tuesday to encourage citizens to go to the polls on Sunday, November 20, 2016. In his address, President Jocelerme Privert outlined the dire situation Haiti is in and said change would come through the scheduled presidential and partial legislative elections.

Haitian people,
The elections coming are fundamental to the future of democracy in the country.

Misery of the situation we are living, the damage that the hurricane caused Matthew in the South, two billion dollars in losses, many destroyed towns on the south coast of huge toll on agriculture, environment, fisheries, cattle. Thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of compatriots in distress.

This is not a provisional government in some weeks that will bring the answers to all these ills.

Matthew has done a lot of damage, because that we have not responded to previous disasters, we have not repaired the damage they had caused.

There will always be hurricanes, the devastating will always be like that.

Our ability to limit the damage depends on our ability to be rehabilitated, to repair the damage which have been made. It is not part of a provisional government that we can solve them.

The elections this coming Sunday, November 20, will have legitimate authorities, who have the time, who will find ways, both in national and international levels to address these challenges.

17,000 of our brothers and sisters who are today in the Mexican-American border fled the country because of the deplorable situation that the country lives, they return to live in their country like everyone else, you have found that Haiti’s stability.

The country is poor, we’re talking about $ 2 billion which the country’s budget, which is funded almost 30% by international aid, for there to be domestic income in the country, that jobs are created, so that the conditions of the population improve, it needs to be investments that do in the country.

Nobody, neither Haitian nor foreign, will only invest in a country where the right people is not respected, where the law is not respected and where there is political instability. They will invest in the country, when the country regained its stability.

These elections one goal is to give to Haiti stability, it is only with the stability we will be able to find answers to all the evils that we have described.

I invite you all Sunday, November 20 at 6:00 am, electoral map in hand to go make the choice to allow people you trust, people you know are interested in our future which have the capacity to develop the country, to be elected president, senators, deputies, CASEC, ASEC.

I invite you to make this gesture in our interest, because it is good for us.

The election is November 20 do not miss the chance.

Haitian people I say thank you, to understand the message, I thank you for taking your destiny with your ballot in your hands.
