Matthew: Haiti death toll tops 256, authorities continue assessment

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – Hurricane Matthew has claimed at least 256 lives in Haiti and authorities expect the toll to rise as they gain access to more parts of the country still blocked by debris and downed communications.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Civil Protection Agency announced that the displaced persons count raised from 14,800 to above 21,000 and destroyed homes that were 1,100 rose to more than 2,000. An updated tally had not been issued at the time this piece as published.
