Hurricane Matthew makes landfall in Haiti as Cat. 4

LES ANGLAIS, Grand’Anse, HT (sentinel.ht) – Hurricane Matthew became the first Category 4 hurricane to make landfall in Haiti since Cleo 1964.

The storm hit the Grand’Anse Department at its south coastal town of Les Anglais. Windspeeds were at 145 mph sustained.

The storm will cross over the Bay of Port-au-Prince where water temperatures are 89 degrees, providing it fuel but shear from Haiti’s mountainous terrain could dampen the rise in intensity.
