PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – The head of the National Telecommunications Council is banking that Haiti can accelerate its emergence as a developing nation by creating what he calls a “digital economy”.
CONATEL Director Jean Marie Altema expressed this belief as he announced a Digital Economy Fair, Haiti’s first, which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Karibe Hotel and Convention Center.
The theme of this fair is “The Digital Economy: Accelerating Economic and Social Development in Haiti”. It takes place on the 47th anniversary of CONATEL and is organized with the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).
The objective of the fair is to connect people interested in the development of a digital economy. A framework for exchanges on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be developed through panel discussions, workshops, roundtable meetings, business to business meetings and “Hackathon”.
This show covers both actors and consumers, according to Jean Marie ALTEMA, director of Conatel, which also stressed that Haiti must pass the consumer stage to the producer in regard to digital products and services in the international market.
