PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – The U.S. State Department advised American citizens driving from Haiti to the Dominican Republic to arrive before dark due to a “spate of ‘express kidnappings’ on travel routes”.

The security notice put out by the Bureau of Diplomatic Security noted that “on August 30, a traveler driving from Haiti to Santo Domingo was pulled over at gunpoint by a group of individuals dressed as police officers. He was driven to a secluded area and robbed.”

“This appears to be part of a series of similar robberies by the same group of individuals,” the bureau concluded.

The office asked people to use caution if driving to the Dominican Republic. U.S. Citizens were strongly encouraged to arrive at their destination in the Dominican Republic before dark.
