PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – A departure ceremony was held for 17 Haitian fellows who received scholarships to study at universities in the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The ceremony was held Thursday at the Karibe Convention Center in the presence of Jean Beauvois Dorsonne, the Minister of Education, Pierrot Delian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Haiti, Tsai-chiu Hwang.
The 17 scholars come from all departments in Haiti and left the country for Taipei to continue up to 5 years of graduate studies in various majors such as electronic engineering, computer science, civil engineering, tropical medicine and renewable energy.
In his speech, Minister Dorsonne encouraged the scholars to be diligent in their studies and greet “at behalf of the Haitian government and the educational community, the Taiwanese government support in the field of education.”
Taiwanese Ambassador Tsai-chiu Hwang said the scholarships were within the framework of bilateral cooperation between Haiti and Taiwan, which continues in harmony for over 50 years. The Chancellor praised proudly Delian these 17 young people, who according to him “will acquire new knowledge to return them for development of their country.”
