Aux Bishop of Port-au-Prince, Ducange Sylvain, inducted

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – The new Auxiliary Bishop of Port-au-Prince, Ducange Sylvain, was inducted on Saturday during an Episcopal ordination at the transient Cathedral of Port-au-Prince.

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Jocelerme Privert, attended the event alogn with members of the Catholic clergy; Cardinal Chibly Langlois was absent, he is traveling abroad; the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent; and many representatives of the Church in Haiti and abroad; members of government, including the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Delienne Pierrot; and the large Christian community in Port-au-Prince.
The former Archbishop of Cap-Haitien, Bishop Louis N. Kébreau, was the principal consecrating the ceremony.

The Bishop Sylvain was accompanied by two co-consecrating Bishop Alphonse Kenel and the Metropolitan Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, Bishop Guire Poulard.

In his sermon of fidelity, according to the sacred canons of the church, the new auxiliary bishop of Port-au-Prince who was also accompanied by two deacons, and Laguerre Gregory Dickenson Moses promised, among other things, work on the construction the body of Christ and to remain in the unit; to welcome in the house of the Lord the poor and all those in need; fill flawlessly its mission within the church.

“Together we will continue the mission entrusted to us by the Lord,” concluded Bishop Ducange Sylvain before welcoming the presence of President of the Republic, His Excellency Jocelerme Privert, he calls gesture near the church.

Born April 5, 1963 in Port-au-Prince, Monsignor Ducange Sylvain joined the Salesian novitiate in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, in 1985; He perpetual vows in 1992 in Brussels and was ordained a priest July 8, 1995 in Port-au-Prince. After school principal “Saint Vincent Foundation” in Cap-Haitien (1989-1991) and the work of Carrefour-Thorland (1998-2004), he was Director and Treasurer in Petionville (2004- 2010).

Member of the Society of St. Francis de Sales and former Superior of the Vice Province Salesian “Blessed Philip Rinaldi” of Haiti from 2010 to 2016, Bishop Ducange Sylvain is also today appointed Titular Bishop of Nove.
