LES CAYES, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – The Minister of Justice and Public Security, on Tuesday, visited the officers wounded in the attack on the departmental police station in Aux Cayes.
Minister Junior Camille Edouard took in the visits following a meeting with government prosecutors in Haiti around the problem of prolonged pretrial detention, that is, persons imprisoned who have not been formally charged and/or seen by a judge.
One police officer had died due the attack and five others were wounded. The attackers left with much of the munitions cache.
Two of the attackers were killed in the gunfight and three died when their vehicle was overturned trying to escape. One arrest was made at the scene. The assailant said he was sent by candidate for senate of Grand’Anse, Guy Philippe.
