PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) – Public television and radio, a taxpayer funded state agency, gave an alarming percentage of airtime to the ruling party’s candidate for president, Jovenel Moïse, according to a preliminary report of the Election Observation Mission of the European Union (EU EOM).
The EU EOM presented these preliminary findings on Tuesday during a press conference.
Observing Haitian television from October 1 to 24, 2015, the EU EOM said that the state public television station was far from impartial.
RTNH devoted at least 56% of its airtime to the campaign of Jovenel Moïse for the Parti Haitien Tet Kale.
The EU also observed private radio stations and found that Radio-Tele Ginen had 77% of its airtime purchased by the ruling party.
Radio Kiskeya, it says, had 53% purchased by the Jude Celestin campaign. Radio Kiskeya said it sells airtime for advertisements.
